Beautiful or Bizarre? Cobra Society Tapestry Loafers

Written by , Posted in Beautiful or Bizarre

The quality is definitely there, from the leather trim to the brass toe caps, but seriously, would you wear these Cobra Society tapestry loafers?

I’m all about loafers; they’re completely comfortable, they look super cute paired with cropped skinnies, and they’re versatile. All that said, these Cobra Society shoes have me perplexed.

Cobra Society’s signatre Kilim fabric with its multicoloured ikat-inspired design brings to mind similar-styled knapsacks circa 1992. And regardless of whether or not the fabric swathing these loafers is hand-woven (for the record, it is), I am still quite confident you wouldn’t catch me even styling these as slippers.

Et tu?

Beautiful or Bizarre: Anne Hathaway

Written by , Posted in Beautiful or Bizarre

Really, Anne Hathaway? Really?

Really.

The usually stylish star appeared more than slightly mismatched at a press event for Rio in L.A.

I’m not sure what’s more bizarre: Hathaway’s outfit, or Rachel Zoe’s styling?

What are your thoughts? Take the poll to your right!

Beautiful or Bizarre? Recycling Clothing

Can we talk for a second about how everyone else is talking about Kate Middleton wearing the same outfit multiple times?

Prince William’s soon-to-be wife Kate Middleton stepped out over the weekend for a wedding wearing the same Issa Spring/Summer 2007 dress that she wore in 2008 to Peter Phillips’ wedding. Is that wrong? I don’t think so. Really, it’s entirely normal and realistic for a person to get multiple uses out of the same item of clothing. And yet apparently it’s news when a celebrity does it.

Like her predecessor Princess Diana, Kate Middleton updated her existing wardrobe by adding a new coat, shoes, and hat. [That’s a practical tip for any of us; you can easily mix new and existing items in your closet for an instant, refreshing update.]

So is it bizarre that a woman in the public eye wears the same outfit multiple times? No. That’s beautiful. What’s bizarre is all the press the future princess is getting for wearing something from her wardrobe more than once.

Beautiful or Bizarre? Angelina Jolie in Versace

Written by , Posted in Beautiful or Bizarre

I get that Angelina Jolie used to have a serious thing for goth, and that’s respectable, — or at least it was when we thought she’d moved on from that phase, — but seriously. A Versace glove dress? Really?

Yes, really, the dress is Versace.

And yes, really, Angelina Jolie actually wore the dress to the Berlin premiere of her latest film The Tourist. Check out Brad Pitt’s other half strutting her stuff in a decolletage-highlighting, off the shoulder, gloved dress. At first glance, everything looks fine(ish). But if you look at this picture long enough…

This, my friends, is a fashion statement.

But do you think it beautiful or bizarre?

Beautiful or Bizarre? Anna Dello Russo in W Magazine

Written by , Posted in Beautiful or Bizarre

Famed photog Juergen Teller snapped the shots of Anna Dello Russo for W Magazine, which highlights the editor’s crazy selection of shoes and clothes. And check out the decor in Dello Russo’s home!

All that aside, the shots for W are… artful and interesting. They remind me of the classic ads from Marc Jacobs.

Anna Dello Russo calls herself the Lady Gaga of fashion.

So I guess you know my take her W spread. What do you think? Are these shots beautiful or bizarre?

Beautiful or Bizarre? Ashish Sequined Silk Pants

Remember these?

I thought so.

And the same question applies to these Ashish sequined silk pants. One part slouch, another part sparkle, I’m not sure which is more bizarre: The pants or the price.

What do you think?

Beautiful or Bizarre? Yves Saint Lauren Palais Mohawk Suede Pumps

Written by , Posted in Beautiful or Bizarre

Since its inception in 1962, any utterance of design house Yves Saint Laurent has drawn instant association with quintessential French fashion. As classic as it is innovative, YSL has always had a beautiful way of balancing the artistic and the practical.

And whilst these Palais Mohawk suede pumps may at first glance seem slightly more artistic than practical, they’re actually incredibly wearable. A six inch tall heel is set off by a cartoonish curved front platform. The classic black suede is highlighted with a ‘mohawk’ goat hair fringed trim that runs from the top of the heel right down to the bottom.

These Yves Saint Laurent pumps are definitely directional, and I think they’d add a surprising edge to almost any sophisticated look.

What’s your opinion?

Beautiful or Bizarre? Giles Spring 2011 Makeup at LFW

Written by , Posted in Beautiful or Bizarre

Giles Deacon’s Spring 2011 at London Fashion Week was apparently one style step ahead the rest of the designers.

Whilst everyone else was clearly basing designs off styles from the forties and seventies, Giles Deacon said his show was nineties-inspired; I say the makeup was most certainly eighties-inspired.

Remember GEM and the Rockers?

I thought so.

Beautiful or Bizarre? Reed Krakoff Leather and Shearling Sandals

Written by , Posted in Beautiful or Bizarre

  • Shearling is spot-on style for the impending Fall/Winter season.
  • Shearling is soft, super comfortable, and provides ample warmth during winter months.

Funny how neither of those facts make these Reed Krakoff leather and shearling sandals any more acceptable.

Reed Krakoff developed his creative sensibilities at the helm of Ralph Lauren and Coach, and while most of his eponymous F/W 2010 clothing line is desirable — filled with utilitarian cuts and various textures — these sandals certainly are not.

The black leather sandals alone are chic, but the addition of that shearling front is confusing. It’s like the juxtaposition of summer and winter style, and it doesn’t really work for me.

So whilst the editors at NAP claim these Reed Krakoff shearling sandals are the “most glamourous way to wear shearling this season” —

I’ll stick to my Australia Luxe Collectives and Uggs, thank you.

Beautiful or Bizarre? Camilla Skovgaard Tassel Heel Suede Ankle Boots

Written by , Posted in Beautiful or Bizarre

Since her debut shoe collection in 2006, Danish shoe designer Camilla Skovgaard has built a reputation for fancy footwear that’s daring and dramatic. Her use of geometric shapes in cut-out leather sandals and architectural platforms makes her shoes look like they could just as easily find a home in an art gallery as they could in a shoe lover’s closet.

Check these Camilla Skovgaard tassel heel suede ankle boots. The bones of the boots themselves are amazing; all that black suede and contrasting leather back finish topping off a round toe and serrated front platform. But the heel? I’m not crazy over anything that looks like long hair on a shoe (remember).

The editors at Net-A-Porter seem to think Camilla Skovgaard’s tassel heel ankle boots would transform your look, and I agree —

If the look you’re going for is biker-inspired, buy these today.
